Eclectic Redmond

Global Sanctuary

What was once a dark and dated 1970s home in Redmond, Washington, is now a bright and uniquely personal residence that blends modern design with global influences. Designed for a vibrant couple with Irish and Indian heritage, the home reflects their history through a disciplined edit of travel, color, and craft. We prioritized spatial clarity by removing original constraints, such as popcorn ceilings and enclosed staircases, to reveal an airy, interconnected environment that supports the multicultural identity of the homeowners.

  • The redesign is anchored by a commitment to light and flow, achieved by raising kitchen ceilings and replacing solid walls with expansive sliding glass doors. In the public spaces, custom oak cabinetry and a soapstone fireplace with a black steel surround create a sophisticated dialogue with sculptural forms, such as a hammered brass coffee table and perforated brass pendants. We transformed the entryway into a functional statement, featuring black wood cladding, a custom bar with a graphic stone backsplash, and a steel and wood handrail that opens the sightlines of the home.

The private quarters are defined by original artistry and meaningful cultural motifs. A black and white lotus wallcovering in the primary suite honors the clients' Indian roots, which we paired with walnut furniture and a glass petaled chandelier to create a romantic, relaxed atmosphere. This intentional layering extends to the powder room, where a hand-carved Indian screen is set against limewashed walls and a gold mirrored ceiling. We featured the Michelle Dirkse Collection Wallpaper prominently, including the Bouquet wallpaper in the mudroom to balance structured cabinetry with organic, hand-drawn movement.
