Capitol Hill
Classic
Two decades after an initial renovation, this Seattle project represents a sophisticated update in both comfort and character. The objective was to modernize the home without erasing its history, honoring an architectural remodel completed over ten years prior. By merging inherited pieces with a sharp selection of mid-century and contemporary forms, we created an environment that feels established, personal, and current.

The design focuses on the strategic integration of existing foundations and new acquisitions within this North Capitol Hill home. In the entry, we paired antique French dining chairs with a modern concrete table and a contemporary chandelier to create an immediate dialogue between eras. This layering continues in the living room, where a retained velvet sofa sits alongside French mid-century armchairs and a minimalist white concrete coffee table.
To maintain a sense of lightness in the family room, we sourced a new sofa and light concrete side tables to complement reupholstered vintage armchairs. In the private library, we repurposed a small dark loveseat and moved it upstairs to anchor a moodier, darker palette, while a chandelier was swapped from another room to complete the shift in atmosphere. Even the long-held curiosities of the homeowners, such as their perched cougar, "Karen," were retained to ensure the fresh identity of the home remains tethered to its unique history.
