Washington State
Classic Modern
Situated in a private enclave within Washington State, this project was a study in evolving a home’s identity without erasing its storied past. Our client, a prominent figure in the Seattle heavy metal scene since the grunge era, sought to move the interior away from a dated aesthetic and toward a more grounded, intentional atmosphere. The goal was to honor the existing architecture while introducing a curated mix of traditional, modern, and global influences. We maintained the home's original desaturated orange concrete floors and plaster walls, using them as a foundational canvas for a more expressive and personal transformation.

Refreshing the residence required a delicate balance of restraint and bold intervention. While the bathrooms underwent full-scale remodels, the living areas were transformed through strategic edits rather than architectural overhauls. We reimagined existing furniture with new upholstery, introduced substantial custom pieces, and edited the placement of the client's extensive art collection to create a more cohesive flow. Transitional silk panels were replaced with a semi-psychedelic custom fabric, adding a layer of visual energy that reflects the client’s creative legacy.
In the primary bathroom, we paired a dimensional burgundy tile with a bold marble floor to create a sophisticated "power clash" against the original concrete. We collaborated with a local fabricator to design a hand-carved vanity, which sits adjacent to a minimalist wood unit designed to house the client's vintage scientific sculptures. Downstairs, the powder room was updated with a deep teal limewash and a custom hand-painted toilet with irregular stripes. Throughout the process, we ensured the client’s most personal artifacts, including his iconic MTV Moonman, remained central to the design. The result is a home that feels entirely refreshed yet remains deeply rooted in the history of its owner.
