Belltown Seattle

Urban retreat

Located in the heart of Seattle, this urban retreat was designed for clients seeking a calming, beautiful escape within the city. As a companion piece to their coastal residence, the palette remains consistent with a neutral foundation punctuated by sophisticated hits of blue and black. We utilized soft beige limewash on the walls to create a sense of movement and depth, paired with a matching tadelakt plaster in the primary bathroom for a seamless, tactile transition between spaces. To ensure the new interventions felt integrated, we introduced custom walnut cabinetry in the living room that meticulously matches the existing kitchen millwork.

  • The remodel required creative spatial engineering to overcome the rigid constraints of the building's concrete slab. In the primary bathroom, the client’s preferred bathtub did not align with the fixed plumbing locations. We solved this by designing a custom platform to conceal the necessary drainage, turning a technical challenge into a grand architectural feature. The bathroom is further anchored by a floating vanity crafted from bold Copenhagen granite, providing a striking focal point against the soft plaster walls.

In the living area, we reconfigured an underutilized open office into a versatile multi-purpose suite. By adding a new wall and a Resource Furniture wall-bed system, the space now functions as a high-end office, a library, and a guest bedroom. This clever system allows the shelving and sofa to remain in place while the bed is lowered, maximizing utility without sacrificing aesthetics. To ensure the unit felt like a permanent built-in, we color-matched the surrounding walls to the system’s specific finishes. The result is a highly functional city home that feels intentionally curated and profoundly quiet.
